Hello there! I've really been slacking on blogging but I'm still around. I wanted to share two hats that I sent out about a month ago for boy/girl preemie twins!! So cute! These babies, like all the babies, have been in my thoughts.

I was on Facebook today and one of my friends had posted an article about the American Heart Association starting a project to donate red hats for the newborns/preemies born at Edward and Elmhurst Hospitals to spread awareness of heart disease.  Well SSK must participate!!  Time to buy some red yarn!! Can't wait to get started.  Here is the article if anyone else is interested:

Aug. 19 12:55 p.m.
The project is called “Little Hats, Big Hearts.” The AHA, and Edward and Elmhurst Hospitals are inviting knitters and crocheters to participate by donating finished baby hats (in newborn and preemie sizes) or yarn.
The completed hats and donated yarn must be red, cotton or acrylic, medium to heavy weight, and machine washable and dryable. Hats should not be made with buttons or bows because they pose a danger to babies.

Hello there!! I first want to start out by thanking everyone who has donated to Sweet Savannah Knits!!!! It means the world to me and helps tremendously with cost of yarn and shipping. Especially shipping costs!!!!! Without your generous donations I wouldn't be able to send out these hats to the NICU babies. So thank you!!!!

I wanted to share a teddy bear hat that I just shipped out a few days ago for a beautiful baby boy who weighed 4 pounds 9 ounces at birth. Like always the teddy bear hats seem to be a favorite!! I hope this hat keeps him cuddly warm and his parents get some adorable pictures of him wearing it.

Savannah's 2nd birthday

Hello everyone! I know that it has been awhile since I've written anything but I'm still around!  I wanted to share a picture of a little teddy bear hat I made about a week ago for a very special baby girl.  Her mommy found my website and wrote me an email asking if I would make her little girl a hat because her daughter was recently diagnosed with Triploidy, the same disorder Savannah had. She wanted something special for her sweet baby to wear when she is born.  This is actually my second request from a pregnant mommy who found out their baby had this devastating disorder.  It breaks my heart but I feel blessed that I can do something for them.

These tiny babies have such a special place in my heart.  They are always in my thoughts...

Today is Savannah's 2nd birthday!! I can not believe that it has been 2 years since that day that I delivered her.  There is not a moment that goes by that I don't think about my sweet girl.  My life has been changed for the better since she has been born and I will forever be thankful for that.  I miss you baby girl. I hope you had a great 2nd birthday up in Heaven!!!

Nolan Scott

Hi there!!!!  So it has been forever since I last wrote a blog. I have been MIA because of the birth of our beautiful rainbow baby boy!!! Nolan Scott was born November 29th at 10:23am weighing 8 pounds 14.4 ounce and 21 inches long!!!  He is such a blessing and we couldn't be happier. He is a great little brother to Savannah. Here he is:

Beautiful pictures by Leslie Eve Photography

We feel absolutely so blessed!!!  I'm not going to lie it has been an adjustment having an infant in the house but we are developing a routine and love watching him grow!!!!

I've been away from Sweet Savannah Knits for the last couple months as I did not have time to knit but now that I've adjusted I'm ready to start knitting for the tiny babies again.  This past weekend I received a request for a precious baby boy in the NICU. I knitted him a little blue hat and made him a Teeny Tears (www.teenytears.blogspot.com) diaper as well. My thoughts and heart is with him and his family.

If you or someone you know has a baby in the NICU please contact me and I would love to send them a special hat/bootie set.

Hugs,
Courtney

Sweet Savannah Knits Makes a Donation!

Last year around this time I was a busy bee knitting up Christmas hats to donate to the Preemie Project (www.thepreemieproject.com). The Preemie Project collects and donates hats/booties/blankets and all kinds of things to NICU's in the Iowa area.  I loved loved loved doing this donation because the hats and booties turned out so cute and I just know they brought smiles to the parents that have babies in the NICU during the holidays.  As much as I would love to make such a large donation again this year, I just won't have the time to complete so many with our own little bundle coming in just 3 weeks (or if he's ready, possibly sooner).  I decided that I wanted to be sure Sweet Savannah Knits contributed and helped this holiday season so we did just make a 50 dollar donation to the "Black Friday" donation fund to the Preemie Project!!!! Every year on Black Friday they go out to the fabric stores and purchase tons and tons of supplies at extremely cheap prices. These materials are used to make blankets, sleepers, hats, you name it, all year for the tiny babies. They have workshops during the year to sew!! I was so proud to give some of SSK's money to them with all that they do!!! Check out their website for more info on them!  Even with this donation I do hope I can at least send a couple Christmas hats/booties their way this year!!

We received a teddy bear hat request for a little boy born at 34 weeks weighing in at 6 pounds yesterday!! He is a great weight but still needs breathing assistance. I started his little hat this morning and will show pictures when it's finished!

We are getting close for baby D2's arrival!!! Official c section date is December 3rd. Three weeks away from tomorrow!!!  Tomorrow is my first weekly doctors visit and I'll start getting NST every week. Just to make sure his heart rate sounds good and he's not in any kind of distress in there.

Last weekend we had our 2nd baby shower!! We are ALL set for baby that is for sure! The past week I've been a crazy nester putting everything away and going back and forth to Buy Buy Baby making sure we have everything we need for his home coming!! Here are some pictures from our absolutely beautiful shower. Thank you to my Mom and big Sis for such a wonderful day!!!

Yummy cup cake cake

Adorable center pieces with bottles and tons of much needed diapers!

Savannah's Headstone

It has been awhile but our sweet girl finally received her headstone. It is such a strange thing to be excited about but for some reason we are.  I'm just happy to have her resting spot look so cute and beautiful, just like her.  In some way having her headstone brings another level of closure. It's hard to explain really.  I'm really excited for spring now because I plan on planting a little flower garden right in front of the stone.  We chose the teddy bear because, as most of you know, teddy bears was Savannah's "thing." So it just fits her perfectly! I hope you love it baby girl. We will do anything for you and love you so much! Here it is:

Last weekend we had our first baby shower for Baby D2!! Wow, are we so blessed to have such wonderful friends and family. We received so many wonderful gifts. Baby D2 is already so spoiled!!! Thank you to my Mother in law and Aunt in law for throwing such a beautiful shower!!!  Here are a few pictures from our wonderful day:

Scott, Me and Baby D2 at almost 34 weeks

Yummy cake from Sue!!! Delicious Creations!

Gorgeous hand sewn blanket! Thank you Maggie!

We had our 34 week ultrasound on Tuesday and it went great!! Baby currently weighs 5 pounds and 3 ounces! Keep growing little guy!  He is head down and pretty low so we were not able to get a good profile shot of him. But he looked great on the ultrasound machine. Doc did a thorough check on his organs, placenta, fluid and measurements. He is measuring in the 47th percentile!! I'm one proud mama. Keep watching over your little brother Savannah!!  Oh, and scheduled c section is officially  set for Tuesday December 3rd!! 4 weeks from this Tuesday. Holy Moly!!!
The nursery is all ready!!! We hung up all the wall hangings, including his name (which is still a secret) and just waiting to fill it with more stuff from shower #2 this weekend!!! I'm having so much fun organizing all of his stuff and getting the house all ready for him. I've even  gotten in the Christmas spirit (WAYYY earlier this year then ever for me) because this year will be so special. I'm always dreaming of all our memories we will have with our rainbow!  I decided to take some pictures of the nursery today with our fancy camera. Little obsessed you ask?? Maybe = )

Basket o' stuffed animals!

And of course Theodore the GIANT teddy bear. He is actually Savannah's but she's letting her little brother have him!

Sweet Savannah Knits has been a little slow lately with requests. If anyone knows or has a baby in the NICU please request a gift!!!  I've been looking into ways I can use some of the generous donations to donate toys or anything needed for the NICU babies this Christmas. Unfortunately I won't be able to make many Christmas hats this year since the baby will be taking up most of my time for awhile. I still wanted to be sure SSK did something special for the Christmas NICU babies this holiday season!! If anyone has any ideas of suggestions please let me know!

Everyone loves the teddy bear hats!!!!

Everyone loves the teddy bear hats!!! I have made and sent out more teddy bear hats then any of the other designs! They are so cute!  I recently sent out this tiny little hat to a 1 lb 4 oz beautiful baby girl who was born at just 23 weeks. She also received a little teddy bear for her NICU room. Keep growing baby girl...

52 gifts have been sent out to NICU babies all over the country!!!!

Little update on baby D2:  I'm currently 33 weeks and 3 days! We have a doctors appointment on this Tuesday at 34 weeks and will be getting an ultrasound. I'm excited to see how much little man weighs now!  Here is my 33 week belly shot~

The only thing we have added to the nursery are a few wall hangings.  Little Savannah let her baby brother borrow her teddy bear pictures since we obviously don't have pictures of the baby yet. Once we get his newborn pictures taken I'm going to put black and white pictures of him in the white frames. Above his crib we are hanging his name in white letter blocks but I can't show you that until after he is born!!! Only 5 1/2 weeks to go!!!

SHARE Walk to Remember

Yesterday was the SHARE Walk To Remember  in Naperville. It went perfect and was such a beautiful day for our sweet angels. I know all our babies gone too soon were feeling so loved and so proud of all of us.  Scott and I were interviewed by the Daily Herald and little Savannah was in the newspaper today! Check it out:

Naperville walkers share memories of their 'angels'
By Marni Pyke
Tiny Savannah Rae Dussman only lived four days, but her parents have a lifetime of memories.
"She was beautiful," Courtney Dussman said of the daughter who died of a rare chromosomal disorder in March 2012. As they coped with their anguish, the couple found relief talking to other families who'd experienced similar losses though Edward Hospital's SHARE Program and its annual A Walk to Remember event.
"No one we knew had gone through this before," Courtney Dussman said. "It showed us we weren't alone ... we were sitting down with people who understood."
More than 400 people gathered at Naperville's Riverwalk Grand Pavilion Saturday for A Walk to Remember 2013 in honor of babies who died through miscarriage, stillbirth and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
As volunteers read the names of children, family members accepted white roses in their memory.
Nicole Trevino of Medinah took two roses - one for daughter Aubree, who was stillborn at 36 weeks in 2008, and the other for her son, Gavin, who was seven weeks old when he succumbed to SIDS in 2009.
Surrounded by relatives and the family dog all wearing T-shirts to commemorate Gavin and Aubree, Trevino took stock.
"I was here in tears a few years ago and now ... it's a celebration," Trevino said. "I was in a bad depression for a long time. Now I have my Charlotte," she added, pointing to her exuberant 20-month-old daughter.
"I got an hour of sleep every night until she was six months old because I had to watch her breathe," Trevino recounted. "Now she's healthy, and we're happy."
Each year in the United States, one in every four pregnancies results in miscarriage, according to Edward Hospital's SHARE website, and about 19,000 children die before they're even month old.
Despite the prevalence of such tragedies, there's still a lot of misunderstanding, said Nina Bennett. The author and educator gave the keynote address, recalling well-meaning friends wondering when she would "move on" after the death of her stillborn granddaughter, Madeline.
"To move on is to deny her existence," Bennett said. "Instead, I carry her in my heart."
Before heading out on the walk, participants also thanked Edward delivery room nurse and outgoing SHARE coordinator Brenda Looney. The nationwide SHARE program helps families who've lost an infant through counseling, education and group meetings.
Looney said she'd watched parents go on a "journey," at SHARE sessions. "They know they're not alone," she said. "There is a place for them to keep their babies alive."
Naperville resident and American Idol finalist Gina Glocksen sang during the memorial service. Her connection to the event was old high school friend Scott Dussman.
The Dussmans, who helped organize the 2013 walk, are now anticipating the birth of a son in December.
"It's Baby No. 2," Courtney Dussman said. "It's been nerve-wracking, but we know Savannah Rae's watching over her little brother."

I was so excited to see her name in the paper. Well I get excited to see or hear her name anywhere but I just think it's so great that others around the Chicago land area are reading about her and this fantastic event to memorialize all the angel babies.  I hope you are proud baby girl. We love you so much!!!

Me, Scott and baby D2 took our maternity pictures on Friday. Our cousin Leslie is a fantastic photographer and started her own company called Leslie Eve Photography (www.leslieevephotography). Check her out as she's amazing!!!  She did a great job and I'm so excited to see all the pictures. She gave us a sneak peek so here they are!! Thanks again Leslie!!!  We even took pictures with our "Savannah Bear" (teddy bear we made for Savannah's 1st birthday) so we could incorporate her into the pictures.  I haven't seen those pictures yet but I'm sure they are just beautiful.

I hope everyone is having a great Sunday!

Hat For Baby Olivia

Hi all!! I hope everyone is doing good. I just wanted to write a quick blog with a couple updates. I first wanted to share a little hat for my sister in law's sweet baby girl Olivia born at 33 1/2 weeks weighing 4lbs 11oz. She is gorgeous and doing great in the NICU. She will be home with her mommy and daddy in no time! Here is her little hat:

I just received another NICU cutie hat order today. A little girl weighing 1lb 4oz. She's a tiny little thing but a fighter. Can't wait to get knitting on her hat!! I'll be sure to share when it's done.

This Saturday is the SHARE Walk To Remember in down town Naperville!!! Last year the walk was so special to us because it gave us a day to dedicate to just Savannah.  This year Scott and I have been helping coordinate the walk for the past year so I'm excited to see how it all turns out. We have a fantastic singer, speaker and even doing a butterfly release. So many special things for our angels!!! They deserve nothing but the best and I can't wait to walk for my sweet girl!

On the national SHARE's facebook page they posted a beautiful song that is dedicated to all the babies gone too soon. I absolutely love it and have been listening to it all day. I, of course, think of Savannah all the time but with October being pregnancy/infant loss awareness month and the Walk being this month I have been thinking about her a ton.  Take a listen to this beautiful song...

Little baby D2 is doing great. Just kicking and wiggling away in my belly, doing what he does best!!! Today I'm 31 weeks and 3 days!!!  We have a doctors appointment on Tuesday and then we will be having another ultrasound at 34 weeks. Here is my belly shot today!

My latest obsession/crafting item is knitting up boot cuffs. They are extremely easy and quick knits and look sooo cute with boots!!! With it being fall, I'm all pumped for everything fall ish. Here are a few I've made so far!

New boots!!

Hope everyone is having a great October!!!

Beautiful Bench For Our Angel, Savannah Rae

Good morning everyone! I want to start off by saying Savannah is one much loved little girl!!! My family bought her the most beautiful memorial bench that was placed at Goodman Park in Wisconsin. Every year my family goes to Laona, Wi because that is where my Dad's side of the family lived in the early days. There is a ton of family history there and I'm thrilled that a piece of Savannah is there too. Goodman Park is one of the most beautiful places I've been and I look forward to visiting her bench year after year. It will be amazing to take pictures of my little family, with ALL of us, on this bench every year. This bench means so much to us and I can't wait to see it in person!!! Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!

We all Love you so much baby girl!!!

The last few weeks Scott and I have been busy working on the nursery as you all know. We recently put up curtains, put the crib together and received the bedding!!! I'm so happy with how it has turned out. All we need to do now is add wall hangings and of course baby boy!  I want to thank my WONDERFUL husband for putting all the furniture together, painting, finishing the built in and all your hard work on the nursery. I know I can be a pain sometimes and very particular but you are amazing. Your son is going to love his room!!!

I'll be 30 weeks tomorrow!!! 9 weeks left! Since I have not posted in awhile here is my "a couple days shy" of 29 weeks belly shot!

Happy Fall everyone!!! I hope you are all enjoying pumpkins, apple cider and everything fall!!!  Remember if you or you know someone who has a little one in the NICU please request a hat/bootie set for them from Sweet Savannah Knits!!!
