Diapers Donation!

Hi everyone! It's been awhile since I last wrote a blog but I've been busy busy busy!! I have sent out many hat and bootie sets. So I'm excited about that. I have about a million pictures to share with you!

Hats for twin boys who are about 3.5 pounds!

Gift for a baby boy who was born with CDH

Baby Bear hat!! I made two sets for twin girls!

Bunny set and teddy bear for a baby girl born with a heart defect in LA!

Little polar bear set for a baby boy weighing about 4 pounds in NY

I hope all these special gifts made the babies' parents smile!!

I also finally finished enough Teeny Tear Diapers to make a donation. I plan to give them to Edward Hospital tonight at the SHARE group. I was able to complete 16 sets of diapers so that is 32 diapers total!! I decided that instead of waiting to make a large donation that I would just give small amounts multiple times.  Check out Teeny Tears at www.teenytears.blogspot.com.  Here they are:

I want to give a big thanks to Sue Peltzer for all the yarn she has given me!! It has helped so much! Sweet Savannah Knits is all set for yarn for a long time = )  Thank you again to all that have donated in the past weeks! You are all so appreciated! Also I want give a big thank you to all the parents who share pictures of their little ones wearing their hats I send them. Just seeing these precious pictures makes this all worth it and makes me so happy. All your babies are so cute. = )

Oh and another thank you (I'm just full of them!) to a Mommy of twin boys in Seattle, WA for sending me pictures of your cuties in their Easter bunny hats. This Mommy also gave the nurses, who run the NICU support group at this Seattle hospital, my SSK card in hopes that more parents will request hats for their babies! Way to spread the word!!

I hope everyone has a great Easter!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day Everyone!!!!!

No, I did not knit the shamrock above but I found it on google images and thought it was cute!!! To celebrate Scott and I made Corned Beef and Cabbage in the crock pot and home made Irish Soda Bread yesterday. Yum yum yum...  Yesterday my Aunt Cheri posted a picture with our Irish Ancestors on it. I thought it was pretty cool. Virginia is my
Grandmother on my Dad's side!

I hope everyone has a safe and fun St. Patty's Day!! Have a green beer!

Teddy Bears!!!

We received the teddy bears yesterday!!!! I decided since Savannah's nursery theme was teddy bears that I wanted to purchase some to send with the hats and booties as another gift from Savannah. They are 8 inches tall and are so cute. I love teddy bears so I just assume everyone else does too haha. I hope they add, even just a little bit, more comfort to the Mommies, Daddies and Babies in the NICU!  Check out their cute little faces~

Yesterday I mailed out my Easter/Spring donation to The Preemie Project!!!  Like I said before I did not complete as many as I was hoping but I ended up with 11 total. Not too bad!!! I can't wait to see if any pictures are posted on TPP facebook page of the babies wearing their Easter hats! So cute. Here they are all bagged up and ready for their baby!

Since I last wrote I have sent out 2 more hat and bootie sets. 20 sets have currently been sent out!!! So exciting!  A little teddy bear set went to a beautiful baby girl named Vanessa.  She is a 3 pound cutie who was diagnosed with Trisomy 18. She touches my heart because Trisomy 18 is another rare chromosomal abnormality, just like Savannah had. It's another one of those disorders that doctor call "incompatible with life" however Vanessa is beating all the odds and she is doing great.  Little Vanessa has a facebook page where her family posts updates and pictures of her so it's great to see how she is doing. Her page is http://www.facebook.com/#!/PrayersForVanessaHallak.  Go show her some support and prayers!!

Since I love coming up with new hats I decided I would update the Hats for Preemies page on my website. I'm going to keep the 3 original designs but thought I'd come up with some new options every once and awhile. Gotta keep the creativity juices flowing!  I came up with a Spring Collection. I think they are so cute!! Here they are-

Knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting

Hi everyone!  Well all my "firsts" are almost done.  When I say firsts I'm talking about since Savannah passed away. They always say that the "firsts" are always the worst and then it will start to get easier after that.  The last one we have to get through is tomorrow. Tomorrow is the day, exactly a year ago, that we buried our baby girl. It was an extremely hard day, however, I remember feeling a tiny itsy bitsy bit better after she was buried. I only say this because she was out of the M word and I knew exactly where she was and I could go to her. I could go sit very close to her. The couple days after we left the hospital, before she was buried,  was excruciating because there was nowhere I could go and I didn't know exactly where she was.  It was such an awful feeling.  It's weird to think that exactly a year ago, on March 6, the weather outside was beautiful. Savannah gave us a warm sunny day for her funeral. VERY different from the weather we are having today, that is for sure.

The past few days I've gotten 4 more hat/bootie sets out in the mail!!! One being for a set of twin girls from OR. They are between 3.5 and 4 pounds! Here are their little sets:

Another set that was sent out went to a 2 pound 14 ounce baby boy in NH. I just love the teddy bear hats!

And the 4th set went to a beautiful little 6 1/2 pound baby girl in FL. This little fighter had to go through surgery. Please say a little prayer for her!  I sent her Mommy and Daddy a bunny hat set!

It's so hard to believe that I will need to get my Easter/Spring hat donation for The Preemie Project in the mail next week. They want them by March 15th so they have time to get them to the hospitals by Easter. With all my orders through my website I have not had much time to  make as many hats as I had planned but that is OK.  I'm still helping make those little heads and toes warm.  I have now sent out 19 sets! Yippee!!!!
Here is another picture of my Easter donation in progress. I've posted a few already but I just really liked this picture:

I hope everyone is staying save in the snow and having fun!! I know me, Scott and Dakota had a ball. Dakota absolutely LOVES the snow. She is pure entertainment.

Hugs!

Savannah's Angelversary

March 2nd will always be a sad day for us.  This is the day that we had to say goodbye to our baby girl.  I'll never forget the phone call early in the morning, exactly a year ago today. It was the NICU doctor telling us that Savannah did not have a good night, that she was on the highest level of life support and that we should come down to see her right away.  This is the day that Savannah went to Heaven.  While March 2nd is a sad and hard day it is also a day I like to remember. This is because this is the day that we were finally able to hold her. The feeling of holding Savannah was unexplainable and I will forever hold this feeling in my heart. I was flooded with so much love.  I thank God everyday that Scott and I were given the chance to hold our sweet girl while she was still alive.  Thank you Savannah for fighting so hard so we could have all those special moments with you. We love you so much.

Happy Angelversary Sweet Savannah Rae. Mommy and Daddy love and miss you so much...

This week was busy for Sweet Savannah Knits! I got 3 orders mailed out and still have a few outstanding orders. I'll get the rest out sometime next week. On average I've been able to complete and mail out about 1 a day. This week I sent out 2 bear hat sets and one bunny hat set.  Here is a cute set for a baby boy just born on Wednesday weighing in at 1lb 12oz.  This teddy bear hat is so cute! It's the first one I've made with stripes! Thank you Ashley for ordering the set for your friend!

It's amazing how much knitting and starting Sweet Savannah Knits has helped me to heal. It has given me something to focus on and has shown me how great it feels to GIVE. While Savannah's short life has many purposes I do feel like this is one of them. Thank you Savannah for showing me how to be a more GIVING person!!
I decided to keep a count of how many hat/bootie sets have gone out on my Donate page on my website. I was shocked to see that the number is 17! Holy Cow!  This would not be possible with out all the generous donations from you all. I received a few donations this week and I THANK YOU all so MUCH!! You are all incredible!
